How stupid is that? The most valuable show of the year to the Las Vegas convention center is now ending on Sunday? The reason? Because other shows conflicted with it! Other Shows? That is exactly what they are, OTHER Shows. How is CES not given top priority to have ANY day any TIME they request? The problem with the date change is the price of the rooms is much higher on Friday and Saturday. Now the Convention Center is asking Resorts to give them a special deal but these resorts can get the higher weekend rate during January anyway, because of other events and Leisure travel. It is totally unprofessional of the Convention Center to even ask for a better rate, this is free market capitalism at it’s finest.
It is a welcome site for the Customer that is checking in to be able to speed up the process but You certainly would never expect it in the lobby of Caesar’s Palace. All the other Caesar’s properties, yes but not The Palace. You would expect that if Caesar’s Palace wanted to improve service They would use technology to have the Customer’s room and keys ready prior to arrival and be handed over by a real Person. This is a iconic Vegas institution not the Motel 6. Flamingo, yes, Rio, yes but come on, try harder at Caesar’s, provide real human high class service. And let’s not sugar coat it, the move is because of the minimum wage movement. This is a move to be in front of the possibility of a huge rate increase in the minimum wage so now instead of 12 desk clerks there will be 2 and more and more Kiosk to do the work of these People.
The Rivera location is the best choice for the new Stadium
I was shocked to learn that the West of I-15 Tropicana site, a 100-acre piece of ground located a on the west side of Interstate 15 and now anchored by Station Casinos’ Wild Wild West property is a front runner for a proposed Raiders Stadium. This location is a total wasteland with nothing but ugliness surrounding it. It is not walkable from the Las Vegas Strip which should immediately put it out of the running. If the Raiders come to Las Vegas and are not at a site that is walkable to the Las Vegas Strip it would be best that they do not come at all. This is more about partying than it really is about football and that is the reason People would pick Las Vegas to visit when their team plays the Las Vegas Raiders but they want to stay on the strip not in the Ghetto. If the Stadium is not on the Las Vegas Strip or at the Koval location People will spend much less on their vacation leaving Vegas with nothing to gain.
It is short sighted that the Las Vegas Sun is pushing this horrible site as the one for the Raiders. This opinion is that of a local and not of a potential Raider fan. The typical raider fan will come from out of town and will stay on the Las Vegas Strip for a three day (or more) experience. If the stadium is built at the Rivera site or across from the SLS both would be supported by the monorail, meaning traffic flow and parking would be minimal problems. The Raiders would be supported by many that might be coming to see the other team playing and to enjoy the Las Vegas Strip. They do not want to go to the trashy side of I-15 at the Wild Wild West, They want to drink, gamble, party then stumble into the game. Las Vegas is all about the Strip and NOTHING else. Can You imagine People that want to see a top show and stay in a top Resort wanting to go to west Trop? Hell no! Do You have a gun carry permit? Las Vegans can barely support a minor league baseball team, they cannot support an NFL team, it’s all about the tourist doing so. We have to consider what the visitor would like, not the locals. All the parking and traffic flow has been in place for decades on the Las Vegas Strip, it can handle 10 NFL loads of People at one time, there is not problem there. The Metro area has 150,000 hotel rooms, it can handle the crowds that will come with the Raiders.
The Las Vegas Strip is safe, mainly because the mega resorts have their own security that is as good or better than the Metro Police. Metro Police are working on a very small budget and would be the only force west of the I-15. Security would be at the stadium for sure but the second You walk off the property, good luck! I was sitting at a traffic light in front of this location and Someone tried to Car Jack Me, I was able to avert that but We do not want our visitors to endure the same. The Raiders and the rest of the NFL are considering the Las Vegas Strip, not the metro area of Las Vegas. If the stadium isn’t walkable to the Strip the chances of a team moving here are as good as moving to Primm, Nv. There are idiots presenting these sites, hopefully the Raiders will ignore them. The difference in the Las Vegas Strip and on the other side of I-15 is like comparing two completely different Cities. So is it the Las Vegas Strip or Salt Lake City or Pensacola, FL? The strip has as much in common with the Wild Wild West location as does Pensacola, FL. NOBODY is coming to Las Vegas to visit a place west of I-15.
There was one idea worse than the Wild Wild West site, The absolute worst idea was the site at Cashman Field which is close to NOTHING. The other options are: On the UNLV Campus and the original front runner at Koval and Tropicana. The Koval location is the absolute best because of proximity to Hotel rooms but it most likely would not be approved because of how close it is to the airport’s runways. The site on the UNLV campus would be more walkable than the west Tropicana location but not by much. But some would say, isn’t the stadium about the UNLV team? No, do not fall for that, it was mentioned so that UNLV would put up the property which has basically been ruled out so lets just forget the UNLV football team as a reason to have a terrible location. Sure They can use the Stadium wherever it is built but they are not the reason to build it. They are a terrible team that doesn’t get any local support so certainly not worth spending local tax dollars on.
The Rivera location would be number one if the County could think out of the box. The Convention Center and the stadium could share the location by using the same foot print. The first floor could be Convention Center and the football field could be on top. The field will be artificial turf that can be put over top of anything. And remember, this is a City that has Gondola Rides at the Venetian over top of a Casino. The Rivera location is most centrally located to the most amount of hotel rooms and is across the street from the possible World Resorts 4 billion dollar project.
It is important that the location is decided before the public is allowed to vote to approve funding on this project. I for one will not vote to use my tax dollars for a stadium to be built at the Wild Wild West site, that would be an embarrassment to Las Vegans.
People wanting to come to Vegas to see an NFL game want to party on the Strip not west of the strip. The stadium needs to be very close to the party, the party is the Las Vegas Strip. If You cannot reach the site by Monorail that site should be eliminated from consideration. If that site is considered much longer, I will suspect that Las Vegas is corrupt as much as it was in the 1960’s. Any idiot can look at the Wild Wild West site and see nothing but SHIT!
If it is not walkable to the Las Vegas Strip, middle, north or south it cannot work for football and other events! If Wild Wild West is considered most People will vote against it.
And one other thing that absolutely must go into consideration is the fact that this stadium must earn revenue outside of football and that means People would want to attend concerts, monster truck shows and all the events that happen at stadiums. That would mean the Customer for these events would be from out of town, locals could never come close to supporting the event alone. Las Vegas has a small metro population that cannot support NFL or other events, the vast majority of the support will be from out of town visitors. Those visitors do not want to go to the west side of I-15 to the Wild Wild West, they want to walk up and down the Las Vegas Strip maybe having a drink at 3 places on their way to the stadium either walking or using the Monorail. Imagine the let down if People are partying on the Strip and say, Hey We only have an hour before the event so We have to stop partying and make our way to the Wild Wild West. The T-Mobile arena will certainly be for the Wild Wild West location for the Raiders because that would mean ALL the other events would be at T-Mobile, Who would pick the Wild Wild West over T-Mobile? NOBODY!
The closure of Mermaids and La Bayou will take a little bit of inventory of cheap eats away from the Fremont Street Experience. Also closing at the same time is the Glitter Gulch but No One really cares about that, expect the People that will be out of work. Downtown Las Vegas is starting to look like the old lady that cannot stop getting plastic surgery and with every change She gets worse looking. The skyline which is under the canopy is so crowded by Slotzilla Zip line that You can barely see from one side of the street to the other and that street is filled with buskers and kiosk.
No more deep fried twinkies or deep fried oreos in downtown Vegas. There were other cheap eats to choose from like hot dogs and fries. In the absence of these places other downtown vendors will raise their prices and make finding bargains on food in downtown impossible. Mc Donalds is still in downtown, but for how much longer? Mc Donalds left the south end of the strip recently and in it’s place came very expensive restaurants.
Downtown still has some interesting choices for food but they are slowing going up on price so eat fast.
The biggest mistake Las Vegas has ever made is the eyesore on Fremont Street named slotzilla. On Friday night, June 24, 2016 13 or 14 People were trapped for an unknown period of time in the elevator that takes riders to the launch pad. This isn’t the worst that has happened at this horrible attraction, recently a teenager peed on many innocent People as He rode the zip line. The zip line was not a big hit to many downtown visitors because it totally has ruined the view of the Fremont street experience. Before this eyesore was erected You could see from the Plaza all the way to Elcortez, now You can only see this atrocious attraction and all it’s cables, launch and landing pads.
Las Vegas’ to-be-named team will enter the league alone, perhaps increasing its chances to be competitive immediately, after the board deferred a decision on Quebec City, the other market to apply for a franchise.
New majority owner Bill Foley, a financial tycoon, beamed with pride as he soaked in a day he had worked toward for more than a year and a half. His ownership group must pay the NHL a $500 million expansion fee for the team, which it has been prepared to do for more than a year.
This could open the door for a NFL team to come to Vegas, that would be much bigger impact than the NHL team but it is a step in the right direction.
Las Vegas has been denied professional sports teams in the past because of it’s gambling environment. Do not expect the new Las Vegas Hockey team to look any different than other NHL team at it’s T Mobile home rink. There will not be betting stations set up at the venue but there will be no restrictions for betting on the team at the sports books all over Vegas. There are plenty of sports books that offer mobile betting so there is a way for spectators to bet on these games at the venue just as they can bet on basketball, football, baseball and other sports.

The Checkers at Harmon and Paradise is now open. With five Mcdonald’s closing recently this is good news for those seeking fast food cheap. You might know checkers by the name of Rallys, but it is the exact same restaurant and same ownership. Now that cheap food is moving off the Las Vegas Strip People will have to walk a little. This location is directly across from the Hard Rock at Harmon and Paradise. Harmon is the road that is at The Harley Davidson Restaurant, Twin Peaks, CityCenter and Buffalo Wild Wings. Checkers serves all types of burgers most under 2 dollars and even some as low as one dollar, Chili dogs, fish sandwiches, wings, french fries and milk shakes.
Say goodbye to five McDonalds at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. That means no more cheap hamburgers or French fries within a mile. The closings were at Luxor, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, MGM and just north of the Walgreens and Ross on the east side of the Las Vegas Strip. It was shocking to find this out without any notice in late May 2016.
The McDonald’s at Luxor and Excalibur were the most unique in the world because they were the only one’s to serve nasty Pepsi products instead of Delicious Coca Cola products. This was due to the fact that Pepsi has a contract with MGM properties that does not allow Coke fountain products to be sold. This was a major problem to overcome with McDonald’s that hates Pepsi as much as I do.
McDonalds dominated the fast food market up and down the strip but now the first McDonalds You will find from the South end would be the one at Center Strip next to the new Walgreens and under Twin Peaks. The other McDonalds on the Strip are:
Across from Mirage between Harrahs and Casino Royale
Next to Slots a Fun
Inside Circus Circus on the second floor
So there was once 10 and now there are 5. There is no indication that these remaining 5 will stay or go.
Price is king. Rent is expensive and dollar hamburgers cannot keep up with the increasing cost. You can see what is replacing these McDonald’s are high priced eateries. Most of the burgers start at 10.95 with milk shakes in the 5 dollar range. More and More expensive food is coming to Las Vegas, moving out the affordable places.
The first Mcdonalds to leave the south Las Vegas Strip was the one behind the Fat Burger and just North of Walgreens.
The Mcdonalds at Excalibur will now be a B&B, breakfast and burger joint. It is an upscale eatery that will be much more expensive than McDonalds.
The Mcdonalds at MGM will be a much higher priced burger joint in Johnny Rockets
The McDonalds at Monte Carlo will also be a Johnny Rockets.
Gays walk from Hard Rock to Rumor Hotel, Saturday, May 28, 2016
Gay Clubs in Las Vegas will be doing more business than usual this Weekend. Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas is a huge meeting spot for LGBT Visitors. Other than Orlando and Pensacola Beach, FL, Las Vegas is known for the best Gay parties.
In addition to the usually parties, Rumor Hotel is having a dance festival on Saturday, May 28. Rumor Hotel is located across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel on Harmon.
